The object of this work is to promote an intelligent understanding, appreciation, and love of the Lords Day. Mindful that a preface, like a lens, should enable one to see much through a small medium, I only wish here to define the position of this volume among others on the same subject. To the question: Why do, or should, we keep the Lords Day? four answers have been given. 1. Because Natural Religion favors it. 2. Because the Fourth Commandment demands it. 3. Because the Church orders it. 4. Because the New Testament indicates and exemplifies it. Each of these answers has truth in it.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. Drawing on a broad array of historical and religious sources, this book presents a comprehensive exploration of the foundational principles, development, and significance of the Lordâs Day. The author contends that the Lordâs Day, grounded in the momentous event of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, is not merely a useful institution but a divinely ordained perpetual memorial day. The volume traces the evolution of the Lordâs Day from its origins in the Gospels through its recognition and observance by the apostles and early Christians. It also examines the relationship between the Christian day of rest and the Jewish Sabbath. By examining both scriptural sources and historical evidence, this book adds to our understanding of the Lordâs Day and the role it has played in the Christian tradition, as well as the continuing importance and value it holds for individuals and society.
