Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book presents an overview of the present position and prospects of political economy, addressing a crisis in the history of the subject. The author argues that economic phenomena are capable of scientific investigation and that current economic methods and doctrines are unsatisfactory. Economic facts do not admit of scientific treatment. The prevalent methods of economic research and exposition are open to grave criticism. The author critiques the isolation of the study of the facts of wealth from that of the other social phenomena, the metaphysical or viciously abstract character of many of the conceptions of the economists, the abusive preponderance of deduction in their processes of research, and the too absolute way in which their conclusions are conceived and enunciated. By contrast, the author explores how the several branches of social science must be kept in the closest relation.
