This book is an examination of the arguments for and against the repeal of Great Britainâs Corporation and Test Acts, which required those in public office to receive the sacrament of the Lordâs Supper according to the rites of the Church of England. It was published in 1787 in opposition to a number of petitions to repeal the Acts, which had been in force since the reign of Charles II. The author argues that the Acts were not intended to prevent religious dissent but instead were necessary for the security of the Church and the peace of the kingdom. He also argues that the Acts are impartial and that they do not infringe upon the rights of Dissenters. The book provides a valuable historical perspective on the debates over religious toleration in Great Britain.
