In assuming to write a discussion of the question Is Joseph III the true successor of Joseph the Prophet, in the office of President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? it is necessary that some reason for doing so be given. For many years there has been a discussion of this question; and for some years the writer has interested himself in this question, to the extent that he has made considerable search of the records to convince himself as to how this should be answered, in a brief and direct manner. The books I shall refer to need mention at this point. A. The Bible in common use will be referred to for two quotations. B. The Doctrine and Covenants in use in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, -published by the Deseret News Co.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book, originating from the late 19th century, meticulously explores a controversial debate regarding the rightful successor to the leadership of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints following the tragic death of Joseph Smith, its founder. The author, with the aid of scriptures and historical documents, presents arguments against the claim of Joseph Smith III to this position. Theological precepts and ecclesiastical laws are cited to demonstrate that Smith III's purported selection and ordination lacked divine authorization. An examination of the Acts of the Church and the Book of Doctrine and Covenants highlights the absence of the required prophetic revelations or ordinations necessary for his succession. The book further investigates the tumultuous period following Smith's assassination, during which numerous factions emerged, each claiming legitimacy. Drawing upon historical accounts and the testimonies of key figures, the author skillfully dismantles the claims of Smith III and others, shedding light on the complexities of the church's succession crisis. Ultimately, this book offers a compelling reassessment of the events surrounding the succession of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, providing valuable insights into the intricacies of religious leadership and the dynamics of ecclesiastical succession.
