A propos du livre

Présentation de l'éditeur

Expressive of the deep feeling in Hayti, on the arrival there of the news of the assassination of President Lincoln. with slight historical notes on the Hayti pissing reference to the visit of the Port-au-P rince, during the 17th ani IT his attempt to sympathise with a great People in the touching bereavement which constitutes the subject of the following lines, was prepared, and even forwarded to the United States, for publication, during the height of the National sorrow, but the hope of the A uthor, as to its prompt appearance, was entirely defeated by circumstances too painful for publication; the result, however, of this disappointment, has been the enlargement and present form of the piece. The first shock of this dreadful event has, indeed, passed off, but the horror which it inspired can never cease, nor will it ever be out of time or out of place, to call down indignation of mankind upon so foul a crime.
