Synopsis
This book commemorates the life of Colonel Francis S. Bartow, a delegate in the Confederate States Congress and a hero of the American Civil War. A man of great integrity, Bartow was a devoted family man, and a skilled lawyer. Despising petty matters, he focused on grand ideas. As a politician, he was a representative of the Whig party and later the American party. Bartow was a staunch Unionist until the Republican party convinced him the Union was doomed to fail. He became a secessionist and helped Georgia secede from the Union. When the war broke out, he joined the Confederate army and fought bravely. He was promoted to brigadier general and led his brigade in the First Battle of Manassas. He was fatally wounded in the battle and died on the battlefield. Bartow's death was a great loss to the Confederacy. He was a brave and skilled soldier, and a dedicated patriot. His life is a reminder of the sacrifices that were made by those who fought for the Confederacy.
