In the book, he discusses how the establishment of a strong, black civilization in central Africa is not possible without bloodshed, and advocates for a non-sanguinary evangelization of the continent. He explores the opportunities and challenges of engaging in African commerce, and the facilities, and means black Americans have for doing so. The author believes that self love is as good as any affection whatever, and that this affection can be used to help uplift and enlighten black heathens. He believes that black heathens can be led to salvation and that evangelization is essential. Ultimately, this book advocates for a reoccupation of Africa, both in trade and moral power, by her scattered children in distant lands with the ultimate goal of the redemption of Africa.
