This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is a literary collection of historical verse and prose that takes its readers on a journey through the past and present of the Bloomingdale district of New York City. The author's love of this historic countryside is evident in his charming and often humorous remembrances of this lost time and place. The author places Bloomingdale within a broader historical context by sharing tales of its rich Revolutionary War legacy and its prominent role in the development of New York City. The author's vivid descriptions of the area's former landmarks, such as the famous Rogers Place estate, coupled with local anecdotes, create a rich and inviting narrative. Through the author's eyes, the reader gets to visit historic churches, wander through gardens, and meet some of the area's notable residents. The depth of the author's affection for Bloomingdale is not merely about recounting its history but also about dissecting the many changes the area has seen, both good and bad. The author laments the loss of community and decries the development of the area, but he never becomes overly sentimental. Throughout the book, there is a strong emphasis on the importance of local culture and community connections. In a time of rapid change, this book is a poignant reminder of the value of preserving one's heritage.
