Discover a grounded, compassionate reading of Jesus’ teaching in the Sermon on the Mount. This edition offers a paraphrase and clear exposition that invites readers to see practical faith in everyday life, focusing on charity, prayer, and the real impact of Jesus’ words.
From the call to kindness and generous living to the discipline of private and public prayer, this work frames the Sermon as a guide to authentic, life‑shaping faith. It emphasizes humility, compassion, and the human need for a honest relationship with God, making the text approachable for modern readers while staying faithful to the original message.
Across thoughtful chapters, it explores how following Jesus reshapes ordinary actions into acts of trust, love, and communal responsibility. The discussion blends practical reflections with spiritual insight, inviting readers to examine their own motives and the place of God in daily life.
Ideal for readers seeking a clear, steady path to living out the teachings of Jesus in a modern context.

Leopold Classic Library is delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive collection. As part of our on-going commitment to delivering value to the reader, we have also provided you with a link to a website, where you may download a digital version of this work for free. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. Whilst the books in this collection have not been hand curated, an aim of our publishing program is to facilitate rapid access to this vast reservoir of literature. As a result of this book being first published many decades ago, it may have occasional imperfections. These imperfections may include poor picture quality, blurred or missing text. While some of these imperfections may have appeared in the original work, others may have resulted from the scanning process that has been applied. However, our view is that this is a significant literary work, which deserves to be brought back into print after many decades. While some publishers have applied optical character recognition (OCR), this approach has its own drawbacks, which include formatting errors, misspelt words, or the presence of inappropriate characters. Our philosophy has been guided by a desire to provide the reader with an experience that is as close as possible to ownership of the original work. We hope that you will enjoy this wonderful classic book, and that the occasional imperfection that it might contain will not detract from the experience.
Note by the Author THE paraphrase of the three chapters of the First Gospel containing the Sermon on the Mount appeared as one of a series of Fellow ship Manuals published by the Epworth Press, and is still being published in substantially the same form by that publishing house at fourpence net. My thanks are due both to the Epworth Press and to the editors of the series of Fellowship Manuals for their kind permission to include the para phrase in this volume. I ts object is not to take the place of any ancient or modern trans lation of the Sermon, but to express what I take to be the thoughts of Jesus in the current colloquial language of our time. There is no attempt at word-by-word translation; my motive has been to bring out as much as possible of what is suggested without adding or omitting anything.
