Unraveling demonism through science and history, this work explains how hypnotic suggestion and social forces shape belief and behavior.
Hugh Watt White surveys demonism with a careful, science-minded approach. The book traces ideas about spirits, possession, and psychology across cultures, then shows how auto-hypnotization and suggestion can create powerful, real experiences. It blends case material with clear explanations of how environment, religion, and mental processes interact to influence human belief and behavior.
Ideal for curious readers of science, psychology, and history who want a grounded view of demonism and its explanations.

Modern Christian civilization has been freed from medievalism -with its demons and witchcraft. An unanticipated by-product of missionary work is the unique opportunity of applying modern methods to the study of conditions, such as prevailed in past history. This book was not premeditated. Compelled to come in contact with the demonized, the author found it a necessity to work out the principles underlying the subject. I f, thereby, something is done towards unraveling history, towards bringing the spirit world out of the region of the mystic, and into the range of comprehension, of definition, the result will be a distinct advance for scholarship, and Christianity will be stronger than ever. And it is appalling to find that the larger part of the world yet welters in this misery, from which we have been delivered. The very enlightenment of civilization has hitherto barred the door to recognition, and investigation of the subject of demonism. Out of consideration for readers difficulties with Chinese names, the cases are referred to by their numbers in the authors records. If called for, these records can be published later. Hugh W. White.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the fascinating and often controversial realm of demonism, a phenomenon that has captivated and perplexed humanity for centuries. The author, an experienced observer of this phenomenon, challenges the prevailing views of demonism as merely a product of ignorance or insanity. Instead, the author presents compelling evidence for demonism as a distinct and scientifically observable condition, drawing upon a wealth of case studies and observations. Drawing upon the burgeoning field of psychology, the author explores the concept of dissociation, or the fracturing of a person's personality, as a potential explanation for the complex symptoms exhibited by those believed to be demonized. The book analyzes various case studies, showcasing the interplay between the "demonized" individual's normal personality and the seemingly alien presence of the "demon," often accompanied by striking shifts in behavior, language, and even physical abilities. The author challenges readers to consider the possibility of demonic possession as a real and identifiable phenomenon, rather than merely a figment of imagination or a symptom of mental illness. The author's insights offer a fresh perspective on this age-old subject, suggesting that demonism may be a manifestation of deeper psychological and possibly even spiritual forces at play, and providing a framework for understanding and addressing this perplexing condition.
