Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book explores a legend interwoven with the history of Holystone, a desolate hamlet notable for its ancient well and Celtic cross. The author delves into the lives of two saintly Fathers, Baldus and Zankar, tasked with converting the Northumbrians from heathenism in 667AD. Zankarâs journal is the basis for a chronicle of the Fathers' struggles with pagans and with each other, revealing the sometimes unorthodox methods employed in the pursuit of their mission. The author presents the evolving views on Christianity during this period of Britain's history, contrasting pagan and Christian rituals while painting a vivid portrait of a region steeped in myth and folklore. Ultimately, the book offers a fascinating exploration of the often-contradictory nature of humanity, revealing how even those dedicated to a holy cause are not immune to the temptations of the mortal realm.
