Inverness-shire is the natural center for the study of the Highlands. Under Inverness-shire are placed items whose scope does not extend beyond the County, or items which, having a wider scope, have Inverness-shire as their main subject. Under Highlands are placed items which contain matter of importance for the student of Inverness-shire history, archaeology, institutions, topograpy, or natural science but not easily separable from the general text.
