Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. The National Association of State Universities was founded in 1895 as a forum for discussion and debate concerning matters related to higher education and the promotion of universities in each state of the union. This book is a collection of papers, discussions, speeches, and reports from the nineteenth annual meeting of the NASU in November 1914, Washington, D.C. Attendees included over 40 state university presidents and representatives from allied institutions as well as special members such as the US Commissioner of Education. The author examines the relationship between state universities and similar organizations, such as the Association of American Universities and the National Association of Agricultural Colleges. The book also discusses topics such as graduate work and faculty roles in governance, university finances, and improvement of business administration. The author promotes taking advantage of informal conferences and visits among members and encourages comparison of experiences common to a few institutions, similarly, or peculiarly situated. Individual perspectives and shared experiences within the NASU helped create a network that set the stage for future enhancements to education in the United States.
