Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the complex and often dangerous world of steam boiler explosions. A topic that has plagued the advancement of civilization since the introduction of the steam engine, the author meticulously examines the science behind these destructive events. Drawing on the work of pioneers like George Biddle Airy and Professor Rankine, the book explores the immense amount of energy stored within steam and water under high pressure. It unpacks the intricate formulas and calculations that determine this energy, offering a detailed analysis of the forces at play during an explosion. The author even compares the explosive potential of steam boilers to that of gunpowder, revealing the shocking magnitude of the destructive force that can be unleashed. Beyond the scientific exploration, the book also delves into the practical aspects of boiler safety. It scrutinizes the common causes of explosions, including faulty design, poor construction, and improper management. The author emphasizes the importance of careful inspection, maintenance, and adherence to established safety protocols to prevent these catastrophic events. This book provides a comprehensive and engaging exploration of steam boiler explosions, offering both a scientific understanding of their underlying mechanics and a practical guide to mitigating the risks associated with these powerful machines.
