Excerpt from Contributions to the Mineralogy of Victoria
Having myself no laboratory at command, I am specially indebted to my friend Mr. Cosmo Newbery for his assistance in furnishing me with the chemical analyses of a number of the species described. For crystallographers I have drawn correct figures of some of our interesting crystal rarities, and given in the context accurate measurements of angles for the determination of the indices of the planes of some of the new crystals. As regards the arrangement of the species in the description, no system has been followed, except that of grouping together the native metals and metallic minerals — the hydrous and anhydrous oxides — the salts of special acids — gemstones — silicates sulphates, and carbonates.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is an updated, detailed look at the diverse mineral wealth of Victoria, Australia. The author provides detailed descriptions and analyses of over two dozen mineral species and varieties newly discovered since the last major survey and classifies them within the broader context of their type. The author also includes four new localities for previously discovered minerals. Beyond cataloging minerals, the author provides chemical analyses of a number of new species and discusses the geological conditions in which they formed, as well as noting their associations with other minerals. Through this work, the author contributes to the ongoing discussion of Victoriaâs mineralogical diversity, identifies additional resources for commercial exploitation, and adds to the knowledge base necessary to further understand geological processes of mineral formation and their application in other regions around the world. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
