Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book collects and examines the geological principles of De Luc, a celebrated naturalist. The author's theories establish a chronology of our continents by studying the monuments of nature, and he demonstrates that the Earth is not nearly as old as some believe. De Luc examines previous theories and arguments that the Earth is very old due to slow gradual changes, but he concludes these theories are imaginary. He instead proposes natural chronometers, or systems of measurement, based on the gradual progress of operations in nature since the continents emerged from the sea. These include the collection of vegetable earth, peat mosses, snow and ice on mountains, and accumulations of fallen materials. The author demonstrates that the completion of these processes has occurred within known times, and that the Earth cannot be as old as previously thought. By examining the different rates at which these processes occur, alongside known progress and changes over time, and relating those to geological chronometers, the author concludes that our continents are not nearly as ancient as most assume.
