Excerpt from The Air Propeller
It is with some hesitation that the writer adds to the literature of. The propeller. He has been lead to do so, however, because many discussions of the subject are unsatisfying and in some cases are not in accord with fact. Indeed, misconceptions of the behavior of a propeller are not uncommonly held even by those who are otherwise well informed on aerodynamic subjects. The author has endeavored to present a brief and simple treatment of the propeller for those who want a practical working knowledge of its characteristics and a general knowledge of its theory. It is believed that the treatment will at the same time serve as a general introduction for those who wish to pursue the subject further and to make a more detailed study of the propeller, either in its theoretical or practical aspects.

This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book offers a comprehensive exploration of the air propeller, a crucial component in the development of early aviation. Written with a practical approach, it bridges the gap between simple explanations and in-depth theoretical analysis, making it suitable for both those seeking a working understanding and those desiring a more detailed study. The author delves into the propeller's unique characteristics, discussing the relationships between its speed, forward velocity, and efficiency. He compares the traditional "screw" theory of the propeller with the more accurate aerofoil theory, highlighting the importance of considering the propeller blade as a rotating aerofoil in a compressible medium like air. The book examines the various factors influencing the propeller's performance, including its static thrust, its changing efficiency based on airspeed and revolutions per minute, and the impact of its pitch ratio on overall effectiveness. It further analyzes how the propeller interacts with the airplane engine, emphasizing the crucial balance needed for optimal flight. Through detailed diagrams and insightful discussions, the author reveals the intricate workings of this vital part of the early airplane, offering a comprehensive guide for those interested in the history and engineering of flight. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N° de réf. du vendeur 9781332098064_0
