This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book takes readers on a fascinating journey into the world of psychical research, exploring the intriguing concept of personal survival through the lens of automatic writing. The author meticulously analyzes a series of scripts produced by a skilled automatist, known as Mrs. Willett, in the presence of different sitters, including the prominent psychical researcher, Mrs. Verrall. The central focus of the book is the enigmatic "Ear of Dionysius," a grotto in Syracuse, and the string of seemingly unrelated symbols, stories, and historical figures that emerge in the scripts, prompting the author to unravel a complex literary riddle. The author delves deep into the historical context of the Ear of Dionysius, exploring its use as a prison by the tyrant Dionysius, and connects it to the ancient Greek poet Philoxenus, a figure known for his satirical dithyrambs and his imprisonment by Dionysius. This book reveals how the scripts, through their allusions to Greek mythology, poetry, and history, ultimately unveil a connection between the Ear of Dionysius and Philoxenusââ â¢s satirical poem, "Cyclops." This detailed and insightful investigation provides valuable insights into the potential for communication beyond the physical realm, inviting readers to contemplate the nature of consciousness and the enduring power of the human spirit. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
