Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book examines the effect of the excitation conditions of a traveling wave tube on its operation. By taking the Laplace transform of the field equations with respect to the longitudinal coordinate, the book's rigorous mathematical analysis provides a way to bring the initial conditions directly into the equations, rather than matching them at the input. This new method of treatment successfully surmounts the difficulties of previous analyses and presents a complete system that includes the continuous spectrum of the helical sheath system. The theory is developed for arbitrary angular dependence with no greater complications than arise in the symmetric case, making it applicable to a wide range of excitation systems. The book determines the current in the beam at large distances down the helix and expresses it in terms of transfer coefficients which represent the current that would be generated by unit field, unit charge, or unit a.c. electron velocity. The insights presented in this book provide a valuable contribution to the field of traveling wave tube research, offering a deeper understanding of the dynamics of these systems and their response to various excitation conditions.
