Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book explores the effects of limited magnetic field strength on the operation of traveling-wave tubes. Traveling-wave tubes are critical components in many technologies we rely on today, including radar and satellite communications. The magnetic field is required for focusing the electron beam at the heart of the tube, but the ideal, infinitely strong field is not practically achievable. The author presents a theoretical analysis to investigate the discrepancies between an ideal magnetic field and the finite field strengths used in practice. The analysis explains how the magnetic field affects the propagation of waves in the tube and shows that while some wave properties do change, no new types of waves are generated. The author proves that three real roots exist for the resulting complex equation and concludes that the finite magnetic field strength does not change the fundamental characteristics of wave propagation in the tube.
