Series of temperatures were taken at every 2 ft. In depth daily for a about a fortnight. Afterwards a series was taken once a month, as we had not time to read them oftener. In the diagram are shown the curves of temperature for six months, at one reading per month, compared with the curve of mean air temperature for the four weeks preceding each reading of the temperatures of the lake Ice.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book offers a compelling and intimate glimpse into the realities of a journey to the South Pole in the early 20th century. The author recounts the expeditionââ â¢s hardships, from the relentless cold and blizzards to the constant struggle with hunger. His vivid descriptions of the desperate lengths to which the explorers had to go to survive are both harrowing and strangely humorous. The book sheds light on the human condition in the face of extreme challenges, and shows how even in the harshest of environments, the need for companionship and a shared sense of purpose can be powerful forces of survival. The book provides a unique perspective on the era's fascination with exploration and the human desire to push the boundaries of the known world.
