Synopsis

A sun-scorched Western town becomes the stage for a strange funeral, a faded mystic, and a fight that tests loyalty and courage in the desert heat.

Calico Town sits under a blistering sun, its streets carved into rock and shadow. In Sunshine Alley the desert shapes the town’s living spaces, while Hell’s Depot marks a graveyard that tells stories of luck, risk, and the price of gold. A funeral draws a cosmopolitan crowd to witness a moment of reckoning, interrupted by a weathered pair of travelers and a bearded preacher who may not be what he seems. The story follows the clash of pride, superstition, and the hunger for redemption in a landscape where water is precious and temper is rarer still.

A rugged, white-bearded man known as Le Saint meets a younger, tightly controlled figure who moves with the ease of a desert wolf. A young girl named Luck and a wary gunman named Duke Steele become entwined in a tale that blends dusty danger, hard luck, and sudden acts of mercy. As loyalties shift and secrets surface, the town’s rough characters confront their own pasts while the desert demands new truths from them all.

  • Experience a moody frontier setting packed with stark landscapes, wild crowds, and a tense funeral that opens the drama.

  • Follow a cast of hard-edged characters whose choices reveal grit, courage, and moral ambiguity.

  • Watch a high-stakes pursuit across rock and tunnel as danger and fate collide.

  • Unlock themes of redemption, identity, and the cost of survival in a lawless town.

Ideal for readers who enjoy traditional Western adventures with a psychological edge and a vivid sense of place, where every character carries a hidden past and the desert itself seems to judge their fate.

Présentation de l'éditeur

This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.
