Synopsis

Expanding on the work of his predecessor, Bichat, this book provides a compendium of a course of anatomy delivered by the author for over a decade and is intended solely for students of medicine. It offers a general view of the human body with particular focus on its organization and its alterations or diseases. The author consulted treatises written expressly for each system or kind of organ, and included historical information about the principal discoveries made respecting each system of organs. The author took care to note, in every chapter, the titles of the works which furnished him with the materials necessary to compose it. Including content from renowned scientists like Haller, Dumeril, Blainville, Lamarck, and Cuvier, this book includes anatomical plates as visual aids. The author himself conducted extensive research using the latest technology for the time in order to provide in-depth discussion of the subject matter. The volume concludes with chapters on pathological anatomy and anomalous or accidental productions, common to all or several kinds of organs. This volume is particularly valuable for its historical information on the subject.
