Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book presents the results of a series of tests conducted by the author to determine the tractive resistance of steam railway trains and electric railway motor cars. The book focuses on passenger train resistance and defines the resistance of the trains tested throughout the ordinary range of speed of passenger trains, which at the time of the study ranged from five to seventy-five miles per hour. The tests were undertaken to measure the resistance of passenger trains at all speeds within this range and for average car weights varying throughout the entire range in weight. The author also examined the influence of car weight on the resistance of passenger trains, a factor that had often been ignored in dealing with problems in passenger train resistance, despite the fact that passenger cars at the time of testing varied in gross weight from about thirty-five to sixty-five tons. The insights presented in this book are significant because they define the resistance of passenger trains made up of cars varying in weight from thirty to seventy-five tons, and provide probable average values of resistance for passenger trains composed of cars varying in weight from thirty to seventy-five tons, and at speeds ranging from five to seventy-five miles per hour.
