Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book presents a theoretical model of the influences on the effectiveness of strategic planning systems, tested empirically using path analysis. The model incorporates complex interlinkages and enables effectiveness to be construed in both outcome and process terms. It recognizes three major conceptual domains that bear upon planning effectiveness. The first domain reflects the organizational context of planning which is believed to be an overriding influence on both the design and effectiveness of a system. The second domain reflects four planning system design characteristics, termed collectively as planning system orientation. The final domain is designed to capture two distinct aspects of planning system effectiveness. Improvements in the capability of the system are impacted by the organizational context and planning orientation. Ultimate system effectiveness, in terms of fulfillments of key planning objectives, is then determined directly and indirectly by the above antecedent influences. The author argues that the indirect effects would be stronger than the direct effects. This book will be of significant interest to both practitioners and researchers in the field of strategic management.
