Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book explores the complex dynamics of the helping relationship, a process far from simple exchange. The author draws on research from fields like education, welfare, and therapy to develop a framework for understanding how these relationships can be more effective. Building on the work of Carl Rogers, the author identifies five key elements of the helping relationship: the task at hand, the helper's motives and self-image, the receiver's motives and self-image, the environment, and feedback. The book examines the interplay between motives like power, affiliation, and achievement, showing how an individual's desire for control, intimacy, or accomplishment can impact their approach to giving and receiving help. The author delves into the crucial role of self-image, highlighting how both the helper and the receiver must view themselves as capable of improvement and willing to engage in the process. The book also explores the importance of environmental factors and feedback mechanisms in shaping the helping relationship. By analyzing the interplay of these elements, the book offers insights into why some helping relationships succeed while others fail, providing a valuable guide for individuals seeking to maximize the effectiveness of their interactions with others.
