Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book studies the effect of different leadership styles on the performance of employees in a business setting. The researcher conducted two in-depth studies: one with undergraduate accounting students and another with managers from a large manufacturing company. The first study provided pilot testing for the experimental design, while the second study served as a systematic replication and extension, testing a sample of subjects characteristically closer to the population of ultimate interest. The author presents a review of the empirical evidence supporting the general proposition that the relationship between participation and performance is moderated by a variety of intervening variables. The author's own study focuses on locus of control, a personality variable, and its effect on the participation-performance relationship. The author concludes that superior performance on the part of subjects in their "preferred" participation condition is, at least in part, the result of better learning rates over the course of the experiment.
