Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book discusses the founding of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with the intent to establish, in early 19th century America, the first school of engineering and science to incorporate hands-on instruction into its curriculum. The author credits the school's establishment to the vision of Stephen Van Rensselaer and the educational methods put in place by the school's first professor, Amos Eaton. Eaton's innovative approach for teaching science and engineering placed a heavy emphasis on students performing experiments themselves rather than only listening to lectures from the teacher. Not only was this approach revolutionary in America at the time, but it formed the basis for the laboratory-based system of scientific education used in universities today. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N° de réf. du vendeur 9781332327331_0
