Synopsis

This book follows the expansion of the Methodist Church as they pursued settlers moving West following the Revolutionary War. It details the origins of The Western Conference and its role in overseeing the efforts of the circuit riders. The author notes the importance of the circuit system and the lay or local preachers who served the communities before the arrival of the regular preachers or presiding elders. The book also presents John Wesley's view on democracy and how it aligns with the Methodist itinerant's message of free grace, free will, and personal responsibility. This book is a valuable resource for anyone seeking insights into the history and significance of frontier Methodism.
