Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book sets out to reassess the Traditional treatment of Messianic Prophecy with the author arguing that the rigid ways in which such prophecy has been presented has led to a widespread dissatisfaction with the subject. Many are put off by the intense focus on textual criticism and verbal analysis of Old Testament writings. The author suggests taking an imaginative leap and seeing Messianic Prophecy in the same light as the audience of the time. By not separating it entirely from the Hebrew Utopia and its people's yearning for a perfect state and describing it instead as a commentary on the events of the time, the book posits that prophecy becomes more accessible and meaningful. While many of these prophecies have an ideal essence at their heart, the author argues that every Messianic prophecy is rooted in the lived experience of ordinary people and the idea of a Messiah only emerged as an embodiment of their hopes and desires.
