Die Schwierigkeiten, auf dem Wege Riemanns in die Theorie der Abelschen Functionen einzudringen beruhen genau auf denselben Umständen, welche die Bewunderung für den Erfinder am meisten zu erhöhen geeignet sind. Wir meinen einerseits die höchst allgemeinen und doch wieder vor'' sichtig beschränkten Functionsbegrifien entnommene Grund lage; andrerseits das indirecte Verfahren, durch welches die zu untersuchenden F unctionen mehr synthetisch aufgebaut als analytisch entwickelt werden. Es hängt hiermit genau der von Herrn Neumann hervorgehobene Umstand zusammen, dass es bisher nicht gelang, die @function als nothwendiges Glied der Theorie naturgemäss einzuführen.
