Rudolf von Ihering wurde am 22. August 1818 in Aurich/Ostfriesland geboren und starb am 17. September 1892 in G�ttingen. Er war ein deutscher Jurist. Er stammte aus einer Juristenfamilie, die seit 1522 in Ostfriesland nachweisbar ist. Einer seiner Vorfahren wurde 1772 zum Namensgeber des ostfriesischen Ortes Jheringsfehn. Jhering studierte in Heidelberg, G�ttingen, M�nchen und Berlin, wo er 1842 auch promoviert wurde. Nach Professuren in Basel, Rostock, Kiel, Gie�en kam er 1868 nach Wien. Dort hielt er seinen ber�hmten Vortrag "Der Kampf ums Recht", der in zwei Jahren zw�lf Auflagen erlebte und in 26 Sprachen �bersetzt wurde.
