Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book offers insights into the history of the Basoche, a peculiar corporation of young clerks affiliated with the legal community of Paris. The Basoche originated during the fourteenth century, when the legal profession began to emerge, and justice was gradually transferred from the hands of the Church and feudal lords to the royal courts. These young legal assistants, not yet lawyers but more than simple students, played a significant role in the development of the French legal system and left an enduring mark on French history and culture. The author explores the origins of the Basoche within the university system, the evolution of the legal profession, and the social and political significance of this unique corporation. Through the examination of primary sources and historical accounts, this book sheds light on the Basoche's origins, its internal organization, its relationship with the courts and the university, as well as its influence on French law and society. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N° de réf. du vendeur 9781332681921_0
