When there are only a few accounts; when the postings and additions are all verified by rechecking; if a check figure method is used to prove the accuracy of work; by reverse posting method when a self-balancing Ldger is used. 2. Hard to say. The larger amount out of balance does not necessarily indicate that more errors have been made, as the smaller amount may be the result of a combination of several errors. All things being equal, the larger amount should receive attention first. 3. The customers accounts may be kept in a separate ledger and a controlling account for same be kept in the main or general ledger. The aggregate accounts of customers should equal the amount shown by the general ledger account. The balances of customers accounts may be added on the adding machine, or otherwise.
