Excerpt from Experimentation on Animals, as a Means of Knowledge in Physiology, Pathology, and Practical Medicine
Have sometimes been made in extremely violent and denunciatory language, calated rather to excite the feelings than to give any intelligent or impartial expression of the truth. It has even been declared, by one of the most active agitators in this field, that even though these living dissec tions were productive of all that their advocates claim for them, mankind have no right to the knowledge thus acquired and demands have been made, from the same quarter, for legislation which should put a stop to these wicked contri butions to human knowledge, which mankind would be all the better off for never It is evident, therefore that the aggressive move ment against experimental investigation 1s both unreasoning and persistent. It is liable at any time to resume its activity, and to endanger, both in the State of New York and elsewhere, the progress and improvement of physiological medi cine. For these reasons it has been thought de sirable to present in a condensed form the most important facts in regard to the character, the necessity, and the results of experimentation upon animals for scientific purposes, together with the testimony of the medical profession as to its value.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book discusses the importance and usefulness of vivisections within medical study. The author opens with a brief history of vivisections, their application within medical advancements, and how they became a target of anti-cruelty advocates. They then offer rebuttals to the arguments against vivisections, including the claim that they are unnecessary and cruel. To support their argument, the author presents case studies and anecdotes from respected medical experts. They then delve into the medical advancements made possible by vivisection, such as the discovery of the circulation of the blood and the development of artificial respiration. The author concludes the book by emphasizing the critical role of vivisections in the study of medicine and highlighting the potential consequences of prohibiting them, such as a halt to medical progress and an increase in human suffering. This book is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of medicine, the ethics of animal experimentation, or the importance of scientific research.
