Excerpt from The Church of Our Fathers as Seen in St. Osmund's Rite for the Cathedral of Salisbury
IT has been found necessary to handle this volume more severely than the earlier ones, in order to bring it into line with them; for in the former edition it differed from the rest not only in type but also in arrangement; the clear line between text and notes was transgressed: Latin and English were mingled in the text in a con fusing way, which was foreign to the other volumes. It seemed best, therefore, to bring this volume to better conformity by relegating Latin quotations to the footnotes, giving an abstract or summary in English, where it was necessary, in the place which they had occupied in the text. It has not been thought necessary, however, to bracket the additions which this handling has involved, or otherwise indicate the changes, since they are only changes in arrange ment.

This book delves into the traditions, rituals, and beliefs of the Anglo-Saxon Church, exploring how they differed from those of the Roman Church and their pre-Christian Anglo-Saxon ancestors. A rich tapestry of sources weaves together the ceremonies, prayers, and practices of their faith, from the canonical hours to the Mass. The author draws connections between the Anglo-Saxon liturgy and later English Church rituals, shedding light on the continuity and evolution of Christian practices across time.
