Master the fundamentals of alternating currents with a clear, practical guide to inductance and capacity. This classic text explains how magnetic flux, induced electromotive force, and the energy in magnetic fields form the backbone of AC theory and engineering practice.
This edition presents the core concepts step by step: how flux across areas creates voltages, how a coil’s turns affect induced e.m.f., and how inductance ties to stored energy. It emphasizes practical understanding for design and analysis, with examples and definitions used in engineering work.

Excerpt from Elements of Alternating Currents
This book represents the experience of seven years' teaching of alternating currents, and almost every chapter has been sub jected repeatedly to the test of class-room use. The authors have endeavored to include in the text only those things which contribute to the fundamental understanding of the subject and those things which are of importance in the engineering practice of to-day.
It may be taken for granted that the authors are deeply in debted to Mr. C. P. Steinmetz, whose papers are unique in their close touch with engineering realities. W. S. F.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book thoroughly examines the elements of alternating currents and lays the groundwork for understanding the principles of alternating current circuits. Electrical engineers rely heavily on AC circuits for everything from power generation to communications systems. This book begins by explaining magnetic flux, induced electromotive force, and inductance - and includes inductance calculations for coils, long solenoids, and coils wound on iron cores. Every chapter includes illustrations and examples to aid in learning and problem-solving. This book also delves into the concept of mutual inductance between coils, which is essential for the design of transformers. These introductory chapters pave the way for in-depth discussions about the electromotive force and current curves for alternating current circuits. It then explores the fundamental equation of the alternator, power in alternating current circuits, the contact maker, and the operation of ammeters, voltmeters, and wattmeters for alternating currents. This book is an invaluable resource for electrical engineers and anyone seeking a comprehensive understanding of alternating current circuits. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
