The excuse for this little book is the demand for information, in a convenient form, on the characteristics and uses of the various types of polyphase apparatus, and on the actual working of the several polyphase systems now sanctioned by the best practice. These notes are intended for electrical engineers, central station men, and others who talk about, operate, or are interested in polyphase machinery. While a certain general aquaintance with alternating-current apparatus is presupposed on the part of the reader, the author believes that the reader whose experience has been confined to directcurrent machinery, will, nevertheless, experience no great difficulty in reading and understanding this book. In view of the amazing increase in number and magnitude of installations for the transmission of power by polyphase currents, this book has been written with special reference to the problems that belong to this class of engineering work. The author desires to acknowledge his indebtedness to many electrical manufacturing concerns for the use of much special and valuable information, and to the electrical press for the use of a number of plates. This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book, written in 1902, explores the technical details of polyphase alternating current systems for the generation and transmission of electrical power in the early 20th century. The author defines key terms, diagrams different methods for generating polyphase alternating current, characterizes the equipment used in the process, and discusses topics such as inductance, capacity, virtual resistance, power factor, voltage drop, and frequency. He compares single phase and three phase alternating current systems, and provides formulas and figures to explain his concepts. The book is useful to modern readers interested in the history of electrical engineering and the evolution of electrical power systems. It also offers some insights into the fundamental workings of electrical power technology that remain relevant today. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
