Excerpt from Experiments With Vacuum Tubes
Before leaving Cambridge, I had the good fortune to meet the late Mr. Spottiswoode, who charmed me by his beautiful experiments with vacuum tubes. Prior to that time I took a great interest in the subject, partly from the beauty of the phenomena, and partly because they seemed to baf?e all efforts to unravel them. From that day to this the subject has engrossed my attention, for I believed that a great deal could be done with these tubes, if only the right methods were devised.

To ensure a high quality product, each title has been meticulously hand curated by our staff. This means that we have checked every single page in every title, making it highly unlikely that any material imperfections – such as poor picture quality, blurred or missing text - remain. When our staff observed such imperfections in the original work, these have either been repaired, or the title has been excluded from the Leopold Classic Library catalogue. As part of our on-going commitment to delivering value to the reader, within the book we have also provided you with a link to a website, where you may download a digital version of this work for free. Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the fascinating world of vacuum tubes, those enigmatic glass vessels containing rarefied gases that captivated scientists in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The author, a keen observer of these phenomena, takes a unique approach, contrasting the prevailing methods of studying vacuum tubes using high voltage and large currents with his own, more nuanced methodology. He advocates for employing lower voltages and currents, enabling a clearer view of the fundamental processes at play. The book delves into the intricate patterns of light, known as bands, formed within vacuum tubes when subjected to electric currents. These patterns are shown to be influenced by the presence of solid objects within the tube, the composition of the gas, and the intensity of the current. The author further explores the behavior of these bands under the influence of magnetic fields, providing insightful observations on the separation of electric currents in the presence of magnetic forces. The author's meticulous experiments offer a fresh perspective on the nature of electrical currents in both vacuum tubes and other conductors. Through careful examination and analysis, he raises thought-provoking questions about the role of the glass in the formation of light bands, the true nature of resistance in conductors, and the very essence of electric current propagation. This book serves as a valuable resource for anyone seeking to unravel the mysteries of vacuum tubes and their intriguing applications. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N° de réf. du vendeur 9781332955831_0
