Présentation de l'éditeur

Sheets, written by a Gentleman whofe Modefty would not fuffer him to put his Name to them, were communicated to me as they came from the Prefs.- As I have bidden adieu to Controverfy, I was not difpleafed to find an important Truth fo well defended. In endeavouring as I did, in the Divine Legation, to expofe the vain Babblings of the Greek Philofophy, I imagined I had effectually ferved the I nterefts of Revelation, and vindicated the Cenfures of the Propagators of it. The great Characteriftic of our holy Faith is the Doctrine of Life and I mmortality. Now there were two great Errors (explained in the Divine Legation and defended in the following Treatife) in the mctaphyfical Speculations of the Greek Philofophers, concerning the nature of GOD, and of the SOUL, which necd Tariiy kept them from giving Credit to a Doctrine, highly probable in itfelf, and rendered fo, even by themfelves, from many moral Confederations perpetually preached up by them to the People. But it was their ill Fate to be determined, in their Opinions, rather by metaphyjicahlizn moral A rguments.
