Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book presents an excerpt of the play Absurda Comica oder Herr Peter Squenz, written in 1648 by Andreas Gryphius. An influential figure in seventeenth-century German literature, Gryphius was known for his fusion of classical and contemporary literary forms and themes. Absurda Comica continues this trend, blending the themes of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream with the vernacular and farcical elements of the popular Shrovetide plays common in Gryphius's Silesian hometown. A play-within-a-play, Absurda Comica recounts the misadventures of a troupe of traveling actors preparing to perform the tragic romance of Pyramus and Thisbe. Gryphius's skill at parody and satire shines through the play, with each character representing a different aspect of the theatrical world, from the self-important director to the dimwitted performers. The book provides insight into both the practicalities of early modern theater and the enduring power of Shakespeare's work. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N de rf. du vendeur 9781333005016_0
