It was tbe intention of the Author of this Essay to gire, in an A ppendix, a brief exposition of a plan of his invention for the speedy exchange of the books of Mechanics and other Libraries, where economy of time and accuracy are indispensible, and whieh he has pursued with much success for upwards of twelve months, at the Liverpool Mechanics and Apprentices Ldbrary where the books of 200 readers are exdiangad daily in two beurs without confusion. But the length to which he has unwittingly been lead in his remarks, constrains him to the mere announcement, that he will, on application, gladly communicate any information which may be desired, to gentlemen interesting themselves in umilar institutions. The plan is favourably noticed in Mr. Brougham spamphlet on Education, and has been adopted by several of the institutioDS recently established for the benefit of the working classes. In page 29, near the bottom, for temper mercy with Justice, read temper justice with mercy.

This book explores the benefits of education for the masses, from improving personal well-being and elevating intellectual pursuits to fostering economic growth and maintaining national stability. The author presents historical examples of societies that have flourished due to widespread education, and conversely, societies that have declined due to a lack of it. The book argues that education should not be confined to the elite but extended to all citizens, regardless of social or economic status.
