Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book offers an extensive examination of the Government of India Act passed in 1919 as a step toward constitutional reform in India. At the time of its creation, the act was the most progressive piece of legislation ever passed by the British Parliament. It contained provisions for the creation of a new Indian Legislative Assembly, as well as for the expansion of the provincial legislative councils. Furthermore, the act introduced a system of dyarchy in the provinces, whereby certain areas of government would be transferred to Indian control. The act also provided for the establishment of a Public Service Commission and a Council of State. The author provides a detailed analysis of the act, and its impact on the development of Indian self -government, arguing that it played a crucial role in the growth of the Indian independence movement. This book is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of Indian independence, or in the development of constitutional government in the British Empire. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
