Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book catalogues the results of 20th century Danish expeditions to the marine environment surrounding Greenland, Iceland, and the Faroe Islands. The author's investigations during the first Ingolf expedition led to a new approach to collecting deep-sea invertebrates, vastly increasing the number of specimens and species available for research. Many of the specimens gathered were entirely new to science. The book's main focus is the 78 species of Tanaidacea discovered and described by the author. Before the expeditions, only nine species were identified in the region. Tanaidacea are small crustaceans, most species ranging from 3 to 4 millimeters in length. Their habitat varies from the shallows to depths exceeding 700 meters, but the majority are found below 300 meters. This book represents an exhaustive work in the field and provides a greatly expanded understanding of the deep-sea fauna and the diversity of Tanaidacea in the North Atlantic. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
