This book chronicles the genesis and development of the Concilium Bibliographicum, a pioneering organization committed to organizing and disseminating zoological literature. The author, who played an instrumental role in establishing the Concilium, recounts the challenges faced and the innovative solutions implemented to create a comprehensive and accessible database for zoologists worldwide. The book delves into the historical context of the late 19th century, when the sheer volume of scientific literature posed a significant obstacle to researchers. The author traces the evolution of the Concilium's methods, from its early reliance on printed cards to its embrace of revised editions, key tools, and technological advancements. The narrative highlights the collaborative spirit that guided the Concilium's work, involving partnerships with institutions like the Brussels Institute of Bibliography and the support of scientific societies. The author emphasizes the Concilium's enduring legacy as a vital resource for zoologists, enabling them to navigate the vast and ever-expanding body of scientific knowledge.
