Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book examines the life of William Penn, founder of Pennsylvania. Despite being favored by King James II, Penn's Quaker beliefs and philanthropic efforts to procure religious freedom led him to face slander and persecution after the king's fall from power. Nevertheless, Penn tirelessly advocated for nonconformists, campaigned against capital punishment, and played a vital role in negotiating treaties and maintaining peaceful relations with Native American tribes. The author, an esteemed historian, challenges some negative portrayals of Penn by seeking to separate fact from fiction, while also acknowledging his faults and occasional indiscretions. Ultimately, this book sheds light on Penn's enduring legacy as a pioneer of religious tolerance and a champion of social justice, whose contributions continue to shape the character of Pennsylvania and the nation as a whole. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N de rf. du vendeur 9781333216221_0
