Excerpt from Birds by Land and Sea
The village of Stretford lies at a distance of about four miles south-west from Manchester, on the northern bank Of the river Mersey, which there divides the counties of Lancashire and Cheshire. The country for miles around is low and ?at, con sisting mainly of grazing fields and land under cultivation. I have extended the area Of Observation by occasional excursions over the Cheshire border, and have embodied in the narrative an account of my experiences during a summer holiday spent in the island of Anglesey.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. In this delightful chronicle, the author shares a year of birdwatching in the lush English countryside, beginning with the poignant departure of the swifts in September. As the swallows and martins also depart, the author notes the arrival of sand martins, whose colonies fill the banks of the River Mersey. The book follows the changing seasons, with the arrival of yellowhammers and corn buntings in October, the disappearance of wrens and willow wrens with the first frost, and the return of robins as the only true songsters in November. The author's keen observations and engaging prose capture the beauty and diversity of birdlife, providing a fascinating glimpse into the natural world. Through their experience, the author explores the themes of migration, adaptation, and the intricate relationships between humans and the environment.
