The Black Prince, eldest son of King Edward III, was a renowned military leader during the Hundred Years' War. The manuscript is believed to have been written by Chandos Herald, a domestic herald to Sir John Chandos, a friend and follower of the Black Prince. The author provides a detailed account of the prince's life and notable feats of arms. The book also includes a description of the prince's tomb in Canterbury Cathedral.
