Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is an autobiography by an English musician from Hampstead detailing his experiences studying composition in Vienna just prior to the outbreak of the First World War. It includes an account of how he left his hotel and moved into a large apartment with an elderly horn player named Mr. Doblana following an unusual encounter on a train journey. There he meets a host of interesting characters from Viennaâs arts and theatre scene, and we learn about the Viennese passion for music, dance, and dressing well. The book offers a fascinating insight into pre-war Viennese society and the lives of musicians at that time, culminating in an event which leaves one of the main characters distraught.
