This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book offers a vivid and poignant account of Canada's significant contribution to the Great War, specifically focusing on the experiences of the first Canadian Division and the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. Set against the backdrop of the tumultuous early years of World War I, the narrative delves into the rapid mobilization of Canadian troops, their rigorous training on Salisbury Plain, and their eventual deployment to the battlefields of France and Belgium. The author's firsthand observations and access to official documents provide a compelling and authentic portrayal of trench warfare, the challenges faced by soldiers, and the unwavering spirit and heroism displayed by Canadians in the face of adversity. Through detailed descriptions of key battles such as Neuve Chapelle, Ypres, Festubert, and Givenchy, the book underscores the crucial role played by Canadian forces in halting the German advance and shaping the course of the war. Beyond the battlefield, the book explores themes of national identity, the evolving relationship between Canada and the British Empire, and the profound impact of the war on Canadian society. By weaving personal stories of courage and sacrifice with broader historical context, this book provides a valuable and insightful perspective on Canada's emergence as a nation on the world stage during one of the most defining conflicts of the 20th century.
